War on Christmas comes early

No global warming on Planet Fox! It's two days to Halloween, and the first clash in the War on Christmas is already in the books.

You know what? "Tradition" just means something that's gone on for a long time. It's not necessarily something good. Sometimes it's horrific. This wasn't horrific, but maybe it was time to end.

Yay! The first War on Xmas spotting of the season. Even better than the first WalMart to put up holiday decorations and sales notices.

My favorite tradition of the season was going around and swiping the baby Jesus out of the manger, replacing it with the Jack-o-lanterns I had swiped at Halloween.

"For unto you a pumpkin is given . . ."

Locally, it's not the Halloween season until we see stories in the paper from the Chapel Hill politicos worrying about "out of towners" (translation: black folks from Durham) who might come to Franklin Street that night.

We did have a brief on early-Christmas sales in the business briefs today. My head was “Yes, you really do hear ‘Jingle Bells.’ Sadly (gulp) ’tis the season to avoid ‘tis the season, and myriad other clichés.
