Step right up, step right up!

Ermagerd did you see what the gummint did NOW?!?!?!??? It stopped an innocent woman from spending her foreign money here because some foreign words they can't pronounce at the Fair 'n' Balanced Network sound like some other foreign words they can't pronounce at the Fair 'n' Balanced Network either!

And if that don't fetch 'em, I don't know Arkansaw. But before we go to the comments, let's get to the substance of the piece:

A French woman traveling with her husband and two small children was not allowed to board a flight to New York last week, possibly because her name sounds too close to Al Qaeda.

Aida Alic, 33, says she’s been blacklisted by the U.S. because her last name said before her first name -- as it appears on her passport -- sounds too close to the international terror group.

So your first question might be, oh, something on the order of "what sounds like what to whom?" Setting aside the qaf and that pesky medial 'ayn, we don't know which of the leading Sunday-talk-show pronunciations of "Qaida" Fox has in mind -- let alone how the complainant says her own name, or what demons appear when she says it backwards three times really fast, or whether there actually is a Heywood Jablome desk at Homeland Security responsible for sounding out names on passports to see if the foreigners are trying to pull any fast ones. But back to our story:

Alic arrived with her family for their connecting flight at Geneva airport last Wednesday, headed to New York for vacation, Britain’s Telegraph reported.  But Swiss Air officials told her they had received word from U.S. border authorities that she was barred from entering the U.S.   

The airline did not provide any other specifics, so the family had to return home to the French Alps. The couple had paid more than $3,700 for their lost flights. 

Later at home, Alic searched official U.S. travel sites to try to determine why she was stopped, and realized that it must be her name. 

“Alic Aida, Al Qaeda. When friends make the play on words to wind me up, I am used to it, but not this,” Alic told Le Dauphiné Libéré newspaper.
 
Keeping up with the chain of custody here? Fox is quoting the Torygraph ("French woman with name sounding like al-Qaeda placed on US no-fly list"), which in turn is quoting a French paper, whence we find out that the victim went home and searched the Interwebs and found out it couldn't be anything else! So what makes this a big story, Fox commenters?

What's that book? The Death of Common Sense. Just pray you don't get caught in the web of imbecility.

With people this intelligent running our govt we are sure to do well. LOL!!!

There should be an IQ test for anyone who works for the gov't. If they can't repeat the alphabet or tell you what day it is, they should not be hired.

She should change her name to "il legal al ien" and Obama will not only let her in, he will pay her to stay.

Bear in mind that this woman was stopped by the same agencies who let the Boston Bomber back into the US......Good job guys!  Allow a killer, who we were warned about through and stop a mom and her kids because you cant correctly pronounce her name.  Tax dollars well spent....I feel safer already.

This is the best our intelligence community can do; spy on innocent Americans and bar people with funny sounding names from traveling to the U.S.???
